The Background
When a homeowner starts comparing solar quotes, they want one thing: a clear, unbiased answer about which installer is right for their home. EnergySage was built to give them exactly that. Founded with backing from the U.S. Department of Energy and now operating as part of Schneider Electric, EnergySage connects homeowners across all 50 states and Washington, D.C. with hundreds of vetted solar, EV charging, and clean energy installers, making the entire process transparent, affordable, and stress-free.
The mission is straightforward: take one of the most complex purchasing decisions a homeowner will ever make and make it simple. EnergySage earns trust on both sides of its marketplace. Homeowners receive unbiased guidance from energy advisors. Installers gain access to a platform that helps them grow their businesses and reach motivated buyers. That two-sided trust is the product, and protecting it requires every part of the organization to operate with clarity and speed.
Jackie Mula, Principal HubSpot Architect, joined EnergySage's internal AI Champions group — a company-wide initiative launched to identify pain points and find ways to optimize day-to-day processes with AI. As the administrator of two HubSpot portals serving 250 users, she was responsible for the systems that kept installers compliant, reps informed, and operations moving. But as the scope of what was possible grew, the tools available to her were starting to fall behind.

The Challenge
Compliance at Scale is Harder Than it Looks
For a homeowner on the EnergySage marketplace, the moment of decision rests on trust: trust that the installer sending them a quote is licensed, insured, and current on all their compliance documents. As EnergySage grew its installer network, so did the volume of compliance documentation that needed to be tracked and verified for every new installer coming on board. What had been a manageable process was becoming increasingly difficult to scale manually.
To maintain quality across its installer network, EnergySage used HubSpot Workflows to automate compliance document verification. Each time a document was flagged as non-compliant, the workflow created one ticket per document. An installer operating across multiple states with ten documents could generate ten tickets from a single submission, all of them pointing to the same underlying problem. Partner success managers opened their queues and found 504 tickets staring back at them.
A Visibility Problem the Tools Could Not Solve
As the installer network grew, so did the volume of compliance documentation that needed to be reviewed. For a small team managing that process manually, keeping pace became increasingly difficult. "There was just so much to track," Jackie recalled. "It was hard to know where to focus."
Jackie was uniquely positioned to see the full picture, and she built the solution to match. She managed two portals, hundreds of workflows, and a growing portfolio of custom objects and integrations. Custom objects could not be read or written. Administrative settings were off-limits. She was the bridge between strategy and execution for a company trying to move fast in service of millions of homeowners, and she needed the right tools to keep pace.
The Solution
Unlocking a New Level of Operational Speed
What the team needed was a way to operate at the pace the business demanded: processing more data, consolidating more records, and surfacing clearer priorities without adding headcount or manual effort. The HubSpot AI Connectors, which Jackie had been using, couldn't access custom objects, engagement and call data, or backend administrative settings like workflows, property fields, and permission sets — all things critical to her day-to-day operations. The HubSpot Agent CLI changed that, opening up access to the full breadth of HubSpot's API endpoints and giving Jackie the ability to execute bulk operations at a scale that simply wasn't possible before.
When HubSpot introduced Jackie to the Agent CLI through a private beta, she immediately saw the value of scheduling bulk operations and leveraging custom objects and engagement history. The Agent CLI operated deterministically: the same command, run the same way, returned the same result every time. That meant it could handle bulk operations at scale, stage changes for review before applying them, and be trusted with complex data transformations that affected real installer relationships and real homeowner experiences.
504 Tickets Became 150
Jackie gave the Agent CLI a clear directive: analyze all 504 open tickets, compare them against the associated compliance documentation records, identify the underlying issues per installer, and consolidate everything into a new pipeline with one ticket per installer.
The result: 504 tickets collapsed to 150. A 70% reduction. The Agent CLI pulled the associated documentation records, read the custom fields she had built to track document status, expiration dates, and compliance failures, and copied that context onto each consolidated ticket so reps had everything they needed in one place. It also generated AI-recommended next steps directly on each ticket, suggesting the exact email a rep should send and flagging the specific compliance issues to address.
"I see it as my assistant and my agent," Jackie said. "It helps me get incremental work done way faster so I can focus more on strategy."
Work that previously took two to four weeks now took less than a day. The 504-to-150 ticket consolidation that would have consumed weeks of careful manual effort happened in hours.

The Transformation
Clarity That Lets the Team Move Faster
With a consolidated, context-rich ticket queue, the partner success team gained exactly what they needed to operate efficiently. Each installer had one ticket. Each ticket had context. Each ticket had a recommended action. Reps could move with confidence, following up with installers who had compliance gaps, catching expiring documents before they became problems, and keeping the network healthy as it continued to grow.
The before and after is stark. Before the Agent CLI, complex CRM operations sat on a backlog because there was no realistic way to execute them at speed. After the Agent CLI, Jackie would describe the task in plain language, the agent would map out exactly what it planned to change, and she would review and approve before a single record moved. For the ticket consolidation, that looked like telling the agent to pull all open compliance tickets, match each one to its installer documentation record, identify the root issues, and rebuild everything into one ticket per installer with full context attached. The agent surfaced a preview. Jackie confirmed. Hours later it was done.
A New Standard for What One Person Can Do
Beyond the immediate wins, the Agent CLI changed what Jackie believed was possible as a lead architect. Property field updates that once required visiting each field individually could now be batched in a single prompt. Workflow error audits that consumed days could be handed to the Agent CLI to analyze and flag. Contact deduplication challenges that had defeated previous attempts could be approached with an agent capable of handling the scale.
Jackie had already built an AI-powered document analysis tool that saved EnergySage 300 hours per year and roughly $12,000 in annual costs. The Agent CLI added a new layer on top of that foundation, consolidating 504 compliance tickets into 150, bringing everything into one unified view, and dramatically reducing the noise the team had to manage.
EnergySage's mission depends on making clean energy simple and accessible for every homeowner. Living up to that mission requires an installer network that is compliant, responsive, and ready. And it requires a team with the clarity and capacity to deliver. Jackie Mula is building that capacity, one automation at a time.
"With the Agent CLI, I consolidated hundreds of compliance tickets in hours instead of weeks, and now our partner success team can focus on what actually moves the business forward," she said. "If you can think it, you can probably do it."
