Frequently Asked Questions

Yes — and this is the most common misconception. HubSpot is a full operational platform. Nonprofits use it to manage donor relationships, run fundraising campaigns, automate stewardship workflows, track volunteer engagement, manage constituent support, and report on impact — all in one place. Think of it as the connective tissue across your fundraising, marketing, and communications work.

It can. With the right configuration (custom objects, pipelines, and integrations) HubSpot can manage donations, pledges, memberships, events, and stewardship workflows. Many nonprofits use HubSpot as their central CRM and connect a dedicated fundraising platform (like Fundraise Up or Donorbox) for payment processing. You can also rename HubSpot's default objects to match your language: "Deals" becomes "Donations," "Contacts" becomes "Constituents."

Yes! Donations are tracked as their own object tied to each donor's contact record, including single gifts, recurring commitments, pledges, in-kind donations, and grants. For recurring giving, HubSpot's Commerce Hub supports recurring billing via Stripe. For more complex programs, a custom object can track monthly giving, multi-year pledges, and grant installments with full revenue forecasting.

HubSpot integrates with Fundraise Up, Donorbox, Stripe, GoFundMe Pro, and others, pushing donation data directly into contact records so your team always has a unified view of giving activity. For events, HubSpot connects with Eventbrite, Humanitix, and event•hapily. You can explore the full list of nonprofit-focused integrations in the HubSpot App Marketplace.

HubSpot includes Breeze, its built-in AI, across the platform. For nonprofits, that means drafting donor emails and campaign content, generating social posts, and analyzing CRM data in plain language. Ask things like "Which donors haven't given in 12 months?" and get an answer instantly. Breeze is designed for lean teams, helping you do more without adding headcount.

On privacy: HubSpot doesn't use your constituent data to train third-party AI models, and admins control exactly what data Breeze can access. Enterprise plans include Sensitive Data storage - an additional layer of encryption for organizations working with health data, government IDs, or sensitive constituent information.

On what's new: you can now rename HubSpot's default objects on any plan, so "Deals" becomes "Donations" and "Contacts" becomes "Constituents" natively. Commerce Hub supports recurring billing via Stripe, enabling recurring giving programs and membership renewals directly within HubSpot. HubSpot's data quality tools can also analyze your CRM and surface cleanup recommendations to keep records accurate.

Marketing Hub gives your team email, social media, blog publishing, landing pages, and SMS - all connected to the same donor data in HubSpot Smart CRM. You can segment donors, volunteers, and constituents separately and send personalized communications at scale, without manual list management.

Breeze drafts email copy, social posts, and campaign content in your organization's voice, then surfaces AI-generated insights on what's working so you can adjust in real time. HubSpot's campaigns tool ties all your assets together and tracks sessions, new contacts, revenue attributed, and ROI in one dashboard.

Yes! HubSpot handles both well, though it works best as the coordination layer rather than a standalone scheduling tool. Volunteers are tracked as contacts, with onboarding progress, logged hours, and recognition milestones all built into their record. Workflows automate the journey from application through ongoing engagement.

For events, you can sync a dedicated platform (Eventbrite or Humanitix) directly into HubSpot so registrations and attendance update contact records automatically, or build events natively using HubSpot's marketing events object. Either way, anchoring everything to a HubSpot campaign means registrations, emails, attendance, and post-event donations all roll up in one report. For complex fundraising events, partners like event•hapily offer HubSpot-native solutions.
