Contrary to popular belief, affiliate marketing isn’t passive income (at least, not at first), which means it's important to have a solid promotion strategy in order to earn a decent revenue from it. This is particularly true when it comes to B2B affiliate programs like HubSpot where conversions may be lower than B2C, but the payouts have the potential to be much higher.
Whatever strategy or strategies you choose to adopt, the theory behind it is the same: getting more qualified traffic means you get more conversions which means more money in your bank account (ka-ching!).
Here are 12 strategies based on what we've seen work well for our top performing affiliates:
1. Product Listicles and Comparative Reviews
Both listicles and comparative reviews are a great way to present information in a digestible way. Because they catch your audience at the "bottom of the funnel", i.e. when they are actively looking for a software solution, these high-intent pieces of content tend to convert significantly better than the average blog post. Find out more about these techniques in our guides on how to write product listicles and how to write comparison pages.

2. Tools & Resources Page
Some websites have a resources and tools section in their navigation where they list products that might be useful to their audience. Try creating one on your website if you don't already have one and adding HubSpot's free CRM as a recommended product.

3. Offer Page
Add value for your audience with special deals and offers they can take advantage of. We like to think of our free CRM as the best offer out there, but depending on your audience, you can also offer them a 14-day free trial to HubSpot Marketing Professional or point them to our Starter CRM Suite, which includes all five of our paid products for the price of one.

4. Online Course
If you offer educational content, such as online courses, guides, or webinars on business topics, include getting HubSpot's CRM as a step in that course or add a section detailing how HubSpot can help your audience with their specific needs.

5. Run PPC Ads
PPC (or pay-per-click) ads are ads you would run through an ad platform like Google, Bing, or Facebook that would point to your own website page (this is important!) containing your affiliate link. This is a good method to combine with listicles mentioned earlier. Be sure to follow all program policies.

6. Podcast
You can promote your HubSpot affiliate links in your podcast by talking about what you love about HubSpot and why you think your audience would love it too. You can also take advantage of our vanity link request form so you can easily share your affiliate link verbally.

8. YouTube Videos
YouTube is great for reviewing products and showing your audience what the user experience looks like. You can access free trial accounts to play around with HubSpot’s software and show your viewers how to use it.

9. Email Marketing
Talk about HubSpot in your newsletters. Whether your affiliate link is at the heart of your email’s content or organically included in a broader context, both strategies will provide good exposure for your links to your email list.

10. Social Media
Use your social media accounts to talk about your favorite HubSpot tools with your affiliate link so your followers can easily sign up for free. However, you want to be careful to balance promotional posts with non-promotional posts as to not appear “spammy” and so you can build trust with your audience. You always want to make sure you provide quality content and value to your followers first and foremost.

11. Banner Ads
Take advantage of our banner images to create display ads on your site. If you have articles on your blog, for example, that are relevant to HubSpot like a blog post on how to nurture leads into customers, add a banner ad on the right side of the screen for your readers to click through. If publishing ads on sites other than your own, make sure to point to your own web page first, which can then point to your affiliate link. You can access our exclusive affiliate banner images here to put on your site.

12. Product Marketplace/Directory
Unlike the offer marketplace, a product marketplace or directory does not offer special deals or coupons, but rather simply provides a complete list of solutions for a specific software category. Provide your audience with a full list of solutions classified by product category to include your HubSpot affiliate links (as well as other products). Examples of such marketplaces/directories include G2, Capterra, and TrustRadius.

Phew! That was A LOT of information. Remember, affiliate marketing is not easy work, but it can be well worth the effort if done right.
