SMS marketing gives businesses a direct and immediate way to reach their target audience, leading to higher open rates and faster response times compared to other communication channels. It enables personalized messaging, increased customer engagement, and the ability to track campaign performance for better ROI.

With HubSpot’s SMS feature, you can effectively measure the success of your SMS marketing campaigns using robust analytics and reporting features. Here are the key metrics and insights you can leverage:
  • Delivery rates
  • Click-through rates
  • Conversion rates

  1. SMS for marketers is a paid add-on only available with certain HubSpot plans. See more on pricing here.
  2. Not all businesses can send SMS. You'll need to make sure your business doesn't fall under one of the restricted categories.
  3. SMS messages can only be sent from US- based phone numbers. SMS messages can be sent to any +1 country code number (this would include both the US and Canada).
  4. All portals must formally set their portals up to send SMS. Details of the registration process here
  5. Contacts must opt in to receive SMS messages; SMS is not a cold outreach tool. Learn more about consent here.

For more information on restricted business categories, please refer to Twilio’s Forbidden Message Categories.

Yes, contacts must provide explicit opt-in consent before receiving SMS messages. Contacts can grant consent via specific keywords in SMS threads, or you can manually opt them in if you have their verifiable consent.

HubSpot supports SMS consent collection through workflows. For example, when customers fill out forms or take specific actions, you can automatically subscribe them with proper legal basis documentation. Every message includes automatic opt-out functionality where contacts can reply STOP to unsubscribe.  The system tracks all consent changes with timestamps and legal basis for compliance.
