Marketing Lessons from the Grateful DeadLadies and gentleman, they've done it again!

Congratulations to HubSpot CEO Brian Halligan and best-selling author David Meerman Scott for combining their passion for marketing and love for the Grateful Dead to create a stellar new book.

The new book is Marketing Lessons from the Grateful Dead, a case study in contrarian marketing that uses the iconic band’s success to teach marketers how to use social media and inbound marketing to grow their businesses. It'll be a fun and insightful read for marketing mavens and music fans alike!

Brian and David are giving readers multiple ways to interact with them during the book's launch.

Fans and readers can join the authors for a free, live webinar on August 10th at 12:00pm EDT. Speaking with them will be the “world’s biggest Deadhead,” basketball legend Bill Walton, and 20 randomly selected attendees will receive "band posters" signed by Brian and David. Save your seat now

If you can't wait, folks can watch the authors discuss the book live today at 4:00pm EDT on HubSpot TV. On the show, they will give away the FIRST copy of the book to one lucky viewer.

Throughout the summer and early fall, fellow Deadheads can meet the authors on their “Follow the Band” book tour, (Twitter hashtag: #GDbook), which will be updated on the book’s Facebook fan page.

The book includes photos by Jay Blakesberg, a San Francisco photographer who has been photographing the band for thirty years, and a foreword written by Bill Walton. Readers will walk away with strategic insight on how to turn customers into evangelists and build a brand that lasts forever.

Books can be ordered now on Amazon and will be available for purchase at Barnes & Noble, Borders and all major bookstores within the next couple of weeks.

What do you think? Do you plan on checking it out?

First and foremost, I am excited to read this book and the insights of Mr. Halligan and David Meerman Scott.

But I must say that I am a little skeptical... the marketing lessons and the "freemium" package implored by the Grateful Dead have been hashed out many times before.

I trust and hope that this book will bring new insights into the revolutionary marketing tactics implored by one of my all-time favorite bands.

Awesome. I can't wait to check this out. It will be interesting to see what kinds of takeaways these two content wizards have come up with for this book. When your subject matter is a band who snubbed the "professionalism" of the studio, encouraged live recording at shows, found an audience so devout that some feared they were a "cult," and occasionally sprayed the audience with squirt guns laced with LSD, there's bound to be some new marketing territory to work with.

@Michael Ewing I don't think you will be disappointed. There are 19 different chapters dedicated to 19 different marketing lessons we can learn from the Grateful Dead. The "freemium" concept is only 1 of the 19 chapters.
