blog action day

Today marks the second Blog Action Day -- an effort to "change the global conversation," this year on global warming.

First held in 2007, the event is designed to unite the world's bloggers and encourage blogging about the same issue on the same day. Almost 9,000 blogs with over 19 million readers in 148 countries are participating and HubSpot is part of the conversation to raise awareness about this year's topic: Climate Change.

Why Climate Change?  The organizers of Blog Action Day state, "Climate change affects us all and threatens more than just the environment.  The blogosphere has the unique opportunity to mobilize millions of people around expressing support for finding a sustainable solution to the climate crisis."

According to Geoff York, World Wildlife Federation's lead Arctic species biologist, "With the rapid melting of Arctic sea ice due to climate change, walruses and polar bears are losing their habitats."

York was on the Russian coast of the Chukchi Sea where a vast herd of walruses had congregated.  This "haul out" illustrates the massive disruption that is moving through Arctic ecosystems as climate change warms the region.

From an Inbound Marketing standpoint, Blog Action Day 2009 is an amazing effort to corral disparate communications into a cohesive conversation.  One day.  One topic.  Thousands of posts.
