At HubSpot, hybrid work started before it was mainstream. We realized early on (yes, before the pandemic) that we can better solve for the customer by creating an environment where employees can be productive beyond the office, cover multiple time zones, and establish work-life harmony in the process - and we're still seeing the benefits. Rather than force a "one-size-fits-all" format for getting work done, our employees experience "one-size-fits-one", having the option to work from the location that drives their best work. That’s the power of our hybrid strategy: one choice a year - @home, @office or @flex

In 2025, 72% of HubSpotters opted to work remotely, 21% chose to flex between the office and home, and 7% chose to primarily work in the office. By trusting HubSpotters to choose the option that brings out their best, we attract top talent with diverse work styles  – driving a more innovative, inclusive and mission-driven workforce. We know that hybrid work (when done right) can also increase retention, boost overall productivity, and reduce operational costs and environmental impacts, so for us, it’s a no-brainer.

A truly successful hybrid work model extends beyond simply offering flexibility. It demands a strategic and robust support system designed to keep employees engaged, informed, and productive – regardless of their work location. This means recognizing individual needs and empowering teams to operate in ways that best suit their unique requirements.

That’s why at HubSpot, we intentionally design for clarity, structure and a commitment to connection to make hybrid work actually work.

Clarity: Showing HubSpotters what success looks like

Moving beyond a one-size-fits-all approach means the "everyday" can vary significantly for our employees. To ensure everyone is set up for success, we prioritize clearly defining each role’s desired outcomes. By focusing on output, we trust our employees to leverage their flexibility in a way that maximizes their productivity and aligns with team needs.

Structure: How we facilitate collaboration

In a hybrid environment, staying connected requires the right tools and resources. We’ve invested in effective communication channels to facilitate both live collaboration (Zoom, Lucidchart, Canva, Slack messaging and huddles, etc.) and asynchronous information sharing (we love Loom videos and voice notes). We respect global teams by scheduling messages to be sent at a set local time or putting a reminder in email signatures that “my working hours may be different from yours, please respond during your normal working hours.”

That being said, we understand that not everyone is familiar with a hybrid model, which is where our Learning & Development team comes in. New hires take a course to learn when they should meet live, connect asynchronously and how to use our communication tools to collaborate across time zones, learning styles and drive transparency across the business.

Commitment to Connection: How we strengthen our culture

In a hybrid world, building connections and maintaining a strong company culture happens by design – not default. Here’s how we intentionally spark connection and a dose of spontaneity to make it work, the HubSpot way:

    • MixHub: Once a month, we randomly pair employees for virtual coffee chats, helping to build relationships across teams and departments. 10,000 pairs have been matched to date.
    • Remote Meetups: We provide stipends for remote employees to meet up with HubSpotters in their area, creating opportunities for face-to-face interaction and meaningful shared experiences.
    • Location-Specific Slack Channels: Employees are automatically added to Slack channels based on their location — like ColoradoSpot or BrooklynSpot — allowing for organic conversations (like when the weather is amazing and you want to remind your peers to get some fresh air) and community building.
  • Community Slack Channels: From BlackHub to Families@HubSpot or CrochetSpot to TravelSpot, employees can stay connected with people that share the same interests and important identities from all around the world.
  • Office & Remote Culture Champions: Culture Champions are employees around the globe who drive our culture through memorable moments of connection and celebration. Our 110+ Champions bring local HubSpotters together via quarterly events that allow our employees to connect to our culture, communities, colleagues and company’s mission.

As we continue to refine our hybrid approach according to employee engagement data and workforce needs, we remain committed to innovation and improvement. Meaghan Williams, Manager of Hybrid Experience at HubSpot, shared “We see hybrid work not as a challenge to overcome but as an opportunity to redefine how work happens. By fostering connection, prioritizing flexibility, and investing in the right tools, we’re building a workplace that thrives in a hybrid world. ”

Our hybrid model is the heartbeat of our culture, and it’s here to stay. After all, our culture is in our hearts, not our hallways.
