Contact management and email marketing solutions on a budget

With more than 50 years of combined pest control experience, co-founders Foster Brusca and Culley Christensen launched Pest Posse Academy, an innovative subscription training program that provides ongoing video-based training for pest management professionals. Briefly after launching, they found themselves looking for options to be able to properly manage contact information efficiently and follow-up on their clients.

Having vowed not to use CRMs ever again, co-founder Foster Brusca was reluctant to use a tool that would require a big budget while not fully meeting his expectations as his experience had proven. However, it seemed like the only viable option to be able to track company contacts was, in fact, to use a tool that could help them centralize all their efforts.

Email marketing campaigns were another concern because, even though they had a tool to send email campaigns, it did not allow them to fully track the impact of this activity – which was fundamental since email marketing is the main source of monetization for the courses offered.

While looking for contact management solutions, Foster mentions “HubSpot came up. Once I got into it, the interface was so easy. Everything I kept using got better and better.” That’s when they realized that the CRM could help them efficiently manage contacts while the free marketing account could support them in the whole marketing process. Together, these two features allowed the company to address all their needs within a single platform. Foster said, “It became everything that we wanted, that we didn’t even know we needed.”

HubSpot has made their work easier and more organized. Additionally, analytics has been a great fit for the company because it gives them a nice snapshot as they can see how many emails are viewed and how many subscribers they have – all in real-time. Now, The Pest Posse is using HubSpot’s free tools and centralizing all their efforts.

“HubSpot is really doing something for small companies who really need it. I think it’s phenomenal, especially for start-ups. Email marketing is just amazing, I cannot say enough about that. If somebody opens the email or looks at the email, I get a notification. The follow-up process is so easy too, I just love it.”

To further monetize The Pest Posse and Pest Posse Academy by 2020, they are planning on integrating HubSpot into their growth strategy. Selling more and making more marketing campaigns is the main goal, and to do so, they’ll bring other team members who will also be using HubSpot as their main platform. Foster and Culley would have no problem paying for other marketing services or features because they know that, eventually, they will need it and HubSpot will pay off. For now, the free marketing tool offers everything they need to get their company started and help them grow.

“I don’t see HubSpot going away. I just see it morphing and growing as we grow. The free tools are more than enough to set us up for success and then, as we grow, it will morph with us. I have no problem paying for some of the paid marketing tools down the road.”
