HubSpot’s Approach to "Grandparenting" on the Enhanced Sales Professional Product

At our INBOUND event this year, we announced some exciting enhancements to our HubSpot Sales Professional product. We’ve already started using some of these features ourselves and think you’ll really enjoy them. To coincide with these changes, we are changing some of our prices. Beginning November 1, 2017, the price of Sales Professional will be $400/month (USD) and will include up to five users, with additional users available for purchase for $80/user/month. Sales Starter will start at $50/month.

In keeping with HubSpot tradition, we want to show our appreciation for our customers and have decided to allow all our existing Sales Pro customers access to the new Sales Professional features at their existing price. Our founder, Dharmesh Shah, refers to this as HubSpot’s approach to “Grandparenting.”

HubSpot’s approach to “Grandparenting”:

Customers who purchased Sales Pro prior to November 1, 2017 will be given access the new features for all paid users — without seeing a change in price — once these features are made available.

While we commit to keeping the prices the same for all existing, paid users as a sign of our appreciation, we want to be clear that we do not intend to allow customers to add additional users indefinitely at those same price points. You can expect that in the future, additional users will cost the then current price listed on HubSpot.com/pricing. Additionally, please be aware that certain changes to your existing subscription could prompt a change in price. More information on this can be found in the FAQ section below.

Frequently Asked Questions

I’m an active customer who purchased users for Sales Pro prior to November 1, 2017. What happens to my price after this date? Will I get access to the new Sales Professional product features?

Customers who purchased users for Sales Pro prior to November 1, 2017 will automatically gain the full functionality of the new features of the Sales Professional product as they are made available, without seeing a change in price for those users. Your Sales Pro subscription price won’t change unless you add a user or decide to make a change to your subscription. (We explain what types of subscription changes might have pricing impact in FAQ #2 below).

What could prompt my Sales Professional per user price to change?

For those Sales Pro users you purchase before November 1, 2017, you’ll get to maintain pricing on those users until you make a change to your Sales Professional subscription. Changes to your subscription that will prompt a change in price include changes to your bill frequency, payment method, and/or commitment term. When your subscription does change for one of these reasons, it is based on the prices we make available on our pricing page. Please note that the purchase of other HubSpot products will not initiate a change in your base subscription price for Sales Professional outside of the cases listed above. The new Sales Professional product includes up to five users. Does this mean that after November 1, 2017, I’ll have access to five users without paying an additional amount?

No. Customers who purchased Sales Pro users prior to November 1, 2017 will get to enjoy the new Sales Professional features for the number of paid users existing prior to November 1, 2017. For clarification, if you have three users of Sales Pro on October 31, 2017, then on November 1, 2017, these three users can access the new Sales Professional product. You will not immediately have access to add the full five users.

When will I get access to the new Sales Professional features?

At our INBOUND event this year, we announced our plan to release some exciting enhancements to our HubSpot Sales Professional product. If you are a Sales Pro customer who purchased Sales Pro prior to our INBOUND event, you may begin to see new features live in your portal beginning in September. If you are a Sales Pro customer who purchased Sales Pro following our INBOUND event, the new functionality is planned to be released on or around November 1, 2017.

As we like to be transparent with our customers, we want to include a reminder that while we endeavor to continually develop our software, we do so in an agile way. This means that even our best-laid plans get adjusted. While we do expect to develop and improve our Sales Professional product, we can’t promise any specific features will be delivered on any specific timeline. We hope you’ll buy the product for where it’s at today and continue to see value over time. This means that you should not decide to buy based on a feature being made available in the future.

Will I be able to combine Sales Professional and Sales Starter users on the same portal?

No, you will not be able to combine Sales Professional and Sales Starter users on the same portal. As an example, if you have five paid users, all of these users must either be subscribed to Sales Professional or Sales Starter. While we are pleased to offer our existing Sales Pro customers the opportunity to subscribe to the enhanced Sales Professional product at the “grandparented” rate, we encourage customers to select the product tier that best suits their needs.
